Can I Use My Phone to Send Pitch Calls to My Own Earbuds in Softball?

Yes. The Headset App has a Solo Mode that lets one phone send softball pitch calls to its own paired earbuds and smartwatch, with no channel and no second phone needed just to send. When you are not connected to a channel, the send button switches to Solo automatically and your calls go to your own devices.

What Solo Mode does in softball

Solo Mode is the Pitch Call Menu™ running on a single device. You tap the pitch and location from your circle, and the call is read aloud through the earbuds paired to that phone, for example “Screwball, low and in.” A smartwatch paired to the same phone gets the notification too. Setup and selection are the same as on a full team channel.

The one-phone setup

This is the setup a lot of softball programs want. The coach keeps the phone in the dugout and calls the circle. The catcher or pitcher wears any Bluetooth earbuds you already own and hears each call the moment you send it. One phone, one earbud, nothing to hand out and collect every inning.
  • One phone with The Headset App
  • One pair of Bluetooth earbuds (or an in-helmet speaker) for the player receiving the call
  • Optional: a smartwatch paired to the same phone

What Solo Mode leaves out

Solo Mode sends calls to your own devices, but it does not include live open-voice audio. If you also want to talk directly to your players, or send to more than one player on their own devices, you connect to a channel, which needs a second device and a second license. Solo Mode is the lite way to send, and a connected channel is the full team version.

Try it in a couple of minutes

Download the app, build your circle, and send your first call in Solo Mode. New to setting up your calls? See how to build a pitch call menu for softball.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a device for every player?

No. A one-phone Solo Mode setup uses a single account and one earbud. You add licenses only when you want more devices connected on a channel for open-voice communication.

Will my own earbuds work?

Yes. Solo Mode works with any Bluetooth earbuds, including AirPods, and with in-helmet speakers.
