Yes. In softball, a coach can use The Headset App to send pitch calls from a phone to a catcher or pitcher wearing AirPods, or any Bluetooth earbuds you already own. In Solo Mode, one phone and one earbud are all you need to start, with no proprietary hardware to buy.
How it works for softball
You set up your circle once in the Pitch Call Menu™, with your pitch types and locations. From the dugout, the coach taps the call and it is read aloud in the player’s ear in real time, for example “Drop ball, low and away” or “Rise, up and in.” Whoever wears the earbud, catcher or pitcher, hears the call the instant you send it.Why softball coaches like the AirPods route
Travel and high school softball are where sign stealing is most aggressive, and windmill circles are read constantly from the base paths. Sending the call to an earbud takes the visible sequence out of the game entirely. It also uses gear players already carry, so there is no new device to learn under pressure.- A phone with The Headset App
- One AirPod or Bluetooth earbud for the catcher or pitcher (a strap keeps it secure under the helmet or mask)
- Optional: a smartwatch paired to the same phone
