Option A: Smartwatch notifications (one-way)
Catcher wears an approved smartwatch.
Coach selects the pitch/location on the phone; catcher receives a silent notification.
Phone stays in the dugout (or on the coach).
Tips:
Practice the glance routine so the catcher checks between signs, not in the set.
Use concise codes (Pitch + Edge, e.g., FB-In, CH-Away).
Option B: Wired earbud with no mic (one-way audio)
Catcher wears a single wired earbud with no mic connected to a Bluetooth receiver.
Coach speaks; catcher only listens.
Tips:
Wired earbuds are your non-mic option; confirm it’s listen-only in your own policy.
Route the wire safely (inside jersey, behind chest protector).
Compliance checklist (copy this)
Phone is in dugout/coach possession (not on the catcher)
Catcher device is listen-only (no microphone)
One-way direction is documented in your team policy
AD/league informed; game-day umpire briefed during plate meeting
Pre-game “green light” check (60 seconds)
Coach at dugout → send 3 calls.
Catcher confirms with a non-verbal cue (glove tap or nod).
If anything’s unclear, fix before first pitch.
